We are delighted to present this pair of Worcester plates with bright hand-painted flowers set against a dark purple ground in the center of each plate. Made circa 1810 they show freesia, a pink rose, a purple peony, peach-colored dahlias, and other flowers. The flowers are framed by a thin border of gilt and a wide light-grey marbled border and gilded edge. The exquisite flower paintings are worthy of being on canvas – they have a richness and attention to detail that brings them to life. The flowers seem almost to glow as they emerge from the darkness.
