This is a very unusual pair of late 17th or early 18th century Italian Baroque Girandoles. The girandoles feature a finely executed carved gilt wood frame that is surmounted by a finely carved and gilt acanthus leaf crest. The acanthus leaf candle stems are also finely carved and original to the girandoles. The mirror plates appear to be original to the girandoles and are beautifully patinated with some anticipated losses to the silver. The gold leaf appears to be original with the wonderful red bole showing through in places. Girandoles of this size and form are uncommon, especially in their nearly original condition. These mirror would add depth and authenticity to any interior in which they were placed.
