A very fine quality French Empire Napoleonic period Mahogany & parcel gilt wine cabinet/armoire, circa 1810.
Made of the finest mahogany this cabinet has the shape of a secretaire abattant but is in fact a compact armoire cabinet, concealed to the underside are a series of hooks. The cabinet also has two shelf supports and the cabinet would make a very elegant storage cabinet for wine, bottles could be stored vertically or horizontally.
The stepped pediment to the top having a concealed drawer, below is a neoclassical style pediment which is supported by seven gilt gesso corbels and decorated with a gilt-bronze applique. Below is a single door with satinwood inlay, the door is modeled with a dummy drawer and fall-front, the door is flanked with a pair of Corinthian gilded gesso capitals & gilded cuffs to the base. The base also with a curved dummy drawer, the cabinet is raised on a plinth base with curved apron.
Condition is very good, Bloomsbury Fine Art & Antiques are able to create a pair of shelves from period wood in our workshops, if the buyer so wishes, there would be no charge for this service. We also ship both domestically & internationally, if you forward your location we may be able to provide a preferential shipping quote.
