French Directoire period mantel clock. Constructed of black marble with white statuary marble mouldings with fire gilt/mercury ormolu touches such as feet, beading, chamfered corners, spandrel mounts, bezel and classical urn this is a really smart and chic looking clock. Superb proportions with original ormolu mounts. Fine large and clear convex white enamel dial with Roman hour numerals and Arabic numerals at each quarter. Very fine and slender well cut and finished gilt hands. The dial surrounded by a fine ormolu bezel decorated with concentric circles of beading and palmettes. Very large size 8 day movement with flat bottomed plates, silk suspension, original numbered pendulum, striking the hours and halves on a fine cast bell. French circa 1800-1805.
