A good shaped sewing box of tooled leather with finely cast brass fittings. Stands on lion’s paw feet. The leather is a deep burgundy colour with some minor chipping to corners. The interior is fitted with compartments in blue paper and blue silk, the lids have mother of pearl knobs. The inside of the lid has blue silk with a tooled surround picked out in gold. The original folded needle case is still in situ and there is a holder for 2 thimbles to the right of the centre front lid. A front drawer is locked by a removable pin. The interior is in fine condition. English, circa 1810.
