Left middle: 18th Century Russian Orthodox icon of Archangel Mikhail (Michael) displaying Jesus as Immanuel in the clouds on top. Left Bottom: 17th Century Russian Orthodox icon of joy to all sufferers. The Virgin holds the Christ child in her left arm. On both sides the angels guide the sick, the needy, undressed and seeking help to the Blessed Mother who is approaching. At the top, God The Father appears to be blessing all below. Middle Top: 17th Century Greek Orthodox icon of Christ The Teacher. Middle Bottom: 19th Century Russian Orthodox icon of Theotokos The Healer. Right Top: 18th Century Russian Orthodox icon of Saint John the Baptist, Angel of the Desert baptizing Jesus. The presence of the wings is to symbolize John’s status as a divine messenger.
