English polished steel and nickel silver footman trivet with open horizontal slats, decorative circular pierced skirt, interior wrought iron bars for holding coal and terminating on cabriole legs with stylized penny feet. Early 19th century. Typically used in the 19th century for boarding ladies into a horse drawn carriage. Today trivet may be used as a decorative piece near fireplace.
